3 steps to amp up your WhatsApp privacy on Android

WhatsApp is one of the most popular social messaging services in the world. Although with its ever increasing popularity, comes the potential for security loopholes. Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been working on tightening up security from their end. In 2016, the company added a 256-encryption to prevent unauthorised access but that still may not be enough to keep your chats from prying eyes. Here are a few steps you can take to increase the security on your device.
Become a ghost: Open WhatsApp < Tap the options menu (represented by three vertical dots) < Setting < Account < Privacy. From here, you will see three options that let you decide who can see your personal information: Last seen, Profile photo, Status. You can configure each option to show your information to Everybody, your contacts, or nobody.
Please note that if you don't share your Last Seen information, then you will not be able to see anyone else’s Last Seen information.
Prevent images from showing up in your camera roll: By default, WhatsApp will save all the media you receive on the application to your camera roll. To avoid any awkward moments that you may experience while browsing through your pictures in public, tap the options menu > Settings > Data Usage. From here, you will see three options which let you automatically transfer data to your camera roll -- When using mobile data, When connected on Wi-Fi, and When roaming. Tapping each option will bring up four sub-options: Photos, Audio, Videos, and Documents. Deselect all these sub-options to stop media from automatically downloading to your device
Bonus Tips: You can also download a third-party app that lets you protect your account with a pattern, pin code or a password. Here are some examples to get you started: Lock for WhatsApp (WhatsLock), Smartapp lock, Lock for Whats Messenger etc.
